My Communication as a Leader

Today I was in a group of 4, I and one other person were around the same age, but my 2 other members were much younger, below the age of 13 to paint a better image. These two team members were so knowledgeable about the game we played and it made me feel a bit intimidated.

I found myself listening more than speaking and I communicated by asking the younger team members questions, by being attentive and showing them that what they are saying is interesting and important. Even if I didn’t speak too often I tried communicating using warmth. I currently communicate this way but it was interesting trying to show warmth through body language and attentiveness instead of through words.

As a leader and team member I felt that even if I was being a good listener I didn’t take the lead on any part of the game/challenge and I will try to work on this. I will try to work on my confidence which includes speaking up even if I may be wrong. I will stop doubting myself and fearing that I will mess up, say something wrong or questioning if what I’m saying is relevant or worthy.

As a leader I will continue to communicate using warmth. I will be a good listener as well as a good communicator and I will continue to show others that what they say is worthy too.
